What Is Pro-Choice?
A DEFINITION OF PRO-CHOICE ADVOCACY:
For the purpose of this newsgroup discussion, a Pro-Choice Advocate is
someone who:
- believes a woman has the fundamental right to
determine whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.
- believes a woman knows best about the circumstances
in which she finds herself.
- believes a woman makes intelligent choices for
herself and her family.
- believes a woman must have access to factual
information regarding pregnancies, births, adoptions
and abortions.
- believes a woman must have timely, affordable and safe access to
medical care within the region in which she resides, or easy and rapid referral to another
nearby region which is no more difficult for the woman to access.
- believes a woman who may wish it be counselled in a
manner consistent with generally acceptable and
professional guidelines and practices as set by such
counselling and pshyciatric associations.
- believes an anti-abortion doctor consulted by the pregnant woman should be under an immediate obligation
to declare their stance and to offer to refer the woman
to another local (pro-choice) doctor, and that such obligation means
an immediate referral - a few days delay at most before the pregnant woman consults a pro-choice doctor.
